E Platt & Sons is one of Bolton's oldest businesses, pre-dating even Warburtons which was established in 1876. E Platt & Sons was established in 1872 by Edward Platt and is still run by his descendants today.

Aged 23 in 1872, Edward Platt proved there was some truth behind the saying: "Where there's muck, there's brass." He set off with his horse and cart searching for scrap metal and rags, with more horses and carts soon needed to return his findings to his cottage in Simpson Street, Bolton.

Nowadays, E Platt & Sons occupy a large, purpose built scrap metal processing plant on Waterloo St, Bolton and have come a long way from a horse and cart to now using top of the range recycling machinery to aid processing.
